ABOUT ABOUT

The world premiere of this fascinating documentary film — and a Gala Celebration

Letter from Italy, 1944: A New American Oratorio is a film by documentarian Karyl Evans. It follows the creation of the musical work of the same name. The contributions of poet Nancy Meneely, composer Sarah Meneely-Kyder, and GMChorale Artistic Director Joseph D'Eugenio are revealed as they shape the dramatic presentation. The compelling story of Dr. John Meneely, medic with the cold-weather specialist 10th Mountain Division during its World War II tour of duty, and his struggle to adapt to family life while coping with PTSD, are told through photos and conversations. The Greater Middletown Chorale's premiere of the oratorio, with reaction from musicians, cast members, and audience, brings the film audience in close contact with the performance process and experience.
